While Watching the News

Watching the news

The six o’clock news

Not the to early in the morning

Update at noon

Preview at 530

The rehash at 11 news

The local at 6 news

Watching the recent homicide

That left it’s bloody mark

3 or 4 or 5 doors down from my place

On the door

All over the peeled white door

Never knew the guy

But now I see him

Through a good but awkwardly taken pic

Splashed across the screen

Smiling happily out at us

And I just wanna be that dick

Scream at the pic

“You’re Dead Steve so-and-so from 133 state street caught in an unexplained act of violence! YOU’RE DEAD! Stop looking so happy in the pic!”

But I don’t

The smiling happily face in the pic

Those alive brown eyes haunt me

Right through

 Right through to the bone

Cos now he knows

And shares with me what he knows

Through those haunting brown eyes

In that stupid pic

We are all just one shooting

Stabbing

Brawling

Carjacking

Psycho stalking

Away from being

Just like Dead Steve so-and-so from 133 state street caught in an unexplained act of violence.

Just a good but awkwardly taken pic

Splashed across the screen

For the local 6 o’clock news

Spreading the unwanted gospel of death impending

Subconsciously

Inconspicuously

Crammed between stories

of the stolen chickens

And

If the remodelling of the waterfront

Clever

By the end of the telecast

I won’t even remember his name

Clever

Subconsciously

Inconspicuously
